Prayer at home

At St. John’s Catholic Primary School, we encourage families to continue their faith journey through prayer at home, helping to strengthen the connection between school, parish, and home life. The liturgical calendar is woven into the daily rhythm of the school, with saint’s days, feast days, seasons, and Holy Days of Obligation observed by all members of our community. These sacred moments are marked with reverence through school-wide Masses and celebrations, with leaders ensuring that all pupils have the opportunity to participate in the Eucharist.

Our Parish Priest plays an integral role in the faith life of our community, celebrating Mass, leading worship, and administering the Sacrament of Reconciliation during Lent. Parents are always warmly welcomed to join us in these celebrations, further enriching their children’s spiritual formation.

To extend this prayerful atmosphere into the home, we encourage parents to engage in prayer with their children, following the liturgical seasons and reflecting on the themes of the school’s religious celebrations. Simple acts of prayer at home—whether it be morning prayers, grace before meals, or evening reflections—help deepen the faith experience and keep the love of Christ alive in everyday family life.

As a school, we have developed a prayer book that goes home each week for the opportunity for children to write their own prayers that can be shared with children within the class. This allows the children to grow in knowledge and wonder of prayer.

By aligning the prayers and themes from school with those practiced at home, families can participate more fully in the Church’s liturgical year, fostering a sense of unity and shared faith.
