Catholic Life and Mission

Our Mission

"Let the light of Christ Shine in us"

At St. John's Catholic Primary School, our mission is at the heart of everything we do. We believe in providing meaningful and purposeful learning opportunities that enrich and allow each child to grow spiritually, academically, and personally. Our mission embodies the idea that every child in our school community is valued and nurtured to reach their full potential.

We regularly revisit our mission statement to ensure its centrality within our daily practice. It's also expressed in child-friendly language so our pupils can articulate what it means to them. This approach helps create a vibrant, faith-filled environment where the light of Christ truly shines through each member of our school community.

Catholic Life and Values

Our Catholic life and values are central to our wider curriculum. Our distinctive nature as a Catholic school is evident in all that we do - through the behaviors, attitudes, actions, and words of everyone you'll encounter at St. John's. We strive to create an atmosphere where faith is lived out in daily life, fostering a deep sense of community and shared purpose.

Our school leadership team and governors are fully committed to our Catholic mission. They understand and articulate it fully, ensuring that Christ is at the heart of our school. This commitment is reflected in all our policies and procedures, which are carefully crafted to align with our Catholic identity. Our leaders are energetic and determined in their efforts to ensure that our mission is truly lived by all members of our school community.

Celebrating Gifts and Talents

We celebrate and nurture each child's God-given gifts and talents. Through participation in various events and activities, both in and out of school, we enable our pupils to flourish and make a difference in our community. This approach helps our students understand that they are unique and valuable individuals, each with a special role to play in God's plan.

Our teachers make connections between pupils' gifts and talents within lessons, helping them understand how they are made in the image and likeness of God through their efforts, words, and actions. We encourage our students to use their talents not just for personal achievement, but also in service to others, fostering a spirit of generosity and compassion.

Religious Education and Spiritual Development

We place great importance on Religious Education (RE) and spiritual development. Our assemblies and class worship provide high-quality opportunities for pupils to learn about and develop their spirituality. These sessions are carefully planned to engage students in meaningful reflection and prayer, helping them to deepen their relationship with God.

Achievements in RE are celebrated through displays in classrooms and communal areas, fostering a sense of pride in our pupils' work. This visual representation of their learning journey in RE helps to reinforce the importance of faith in our daily lives. We also use these displays as teaching tools, encouraging discussions about faith and values among our students.
